The hybrid remote is a remote control that can emit both IR and RF signals. It is supported for the LG STB-6500. This remote can be used in scenarios where the STB does not get key inputs from the TV screen and it's not desireable to use an IR receiver.
The RF signal is sent to a USB RF dongle that comes with the remote. This USB dongle must be connected to one of the STBs USB ports.
The following keys are sent with IR to the TV: Power, volume up, volume down and mute.
The rest of the keys are sent through RF to the USB dongle. The power button is sent with both IR and RF.
The remote needs to be paired with the USB dongle and then programmed to work with the brand of the corresponding TV screen.
Make sure there is a fresh set of batteries installed in the RCU
- Press the PAUSE and OKAY buttons together and hold until the red LED on
the RCU flashes.
- Insert the RF USB dongle into the USB port of the STB. When pairing is
complete the red LED will stop flashing.
- Reboot the STB so the dongle is detected.
You can pair more than one RCU with the same RF dongle so that multiple users can
control the same STB.
¶ Programming the remote to a TV brand
- Switch on your TV SET.
- Find the TV brand in the enclosed code list in the PDF document below.
- Beside the manufacturer's name, you will find one or more 3-digit codes. These codes must be
entered into the remote to enable it to work with your particular TV SET.
- Enter the programming mode by pressing the “<<” and the “>>” together for a minimum of 5
seconds (till the green LED flashes twice).
- After seeing the 2 flashes and within 5 seconds, enter the 3-digit numerical code from the list.
- After entering the code, the green LED will flash twice indicating that the code has been
accepted, or will light for 2 sec. in the case of a typing error.
- Point the remote control towards your TV and press the “POWER” key. If your TV does not
respond by going into Stand-By mode then repeat steps 3 to 8 and enter the next code in the
list.

- On a site: Navigate to TV --> Configurations
- Set start volume to 100
- Set max volume to 100
The power button sends power signal to both the TV and STB. As the TV and the STB operate independently, there is a possibility that the power state of the two goes out of sync. Ie. when using the power toggle button, the TV is turned on and the STB is turned off. In the case where the TV is powered on and the STB is powered off, any RF keys press will wake the STB. To get the power state back in sync make sure the TV is turned on and then press one of the other RF keys to wake up the STB.
The following limitations apply to the Hybrid remote solution:
- The HUB system cannot control the audio level of the TV screen.
- The HUB system cannot control the power state of the TV screen.
- Wakeup service not supported.
- Welcome message with power on not supported.
- Power on triggered by a new message not supported.
- Navigation in the LG web browser does not work.
